Disclaimer~  These clips were filmed after several weeks of lessons to show what types of self rescue survival skills are learned.  Floating is key!  Once a child can learn to roll on their back to breathe, swimming is enjoyable for parents and children!  Stoke technique is introduced when the child has mastered this skill.

Remember, I am only offering private (1 child) and semi-private (2 children) lessons this year. If you can, please include a phone # and time you can best be reached...thanks!

Please be sure about the time you choose, I have waiting lists every season for kids that need lessons, thank you.

Cost
is $25.00 for a 30 minute lesson for 1 child. Or $30.00 for 30 minute lesson for 2 children. You must sign up and commit to a minimum of 2 weeks (4 lessons) for the child's benefit (unless signing up for maintenance lessons).  All fees are due at time of the first lesson.

I have parents who like to split the lessons for semi-privates ($15.00 each per lesson). If you are looking for a partner to split the cost for semi-private lessons let me know and I can try and pair you up with another child to cut on the cost.

The times slots available are listed below...I am looking forward to working with all of my little fishies this summer!

We have

My focus is still on survival skills and toddlers with intro to stoke technique & diving. If your child is swimming with NO assistance he/she may be ready for the swim team through the aquatic center! This is a great program and they start at 4 yrs. old. I will also be offering private and semi-private classes if this fits your schedule better or you have an older child that needs to brush up on his/her swimming or diving skills. Call for more information on private lessons or to reserve your child’s spot… Thank you!

    Authorized Provider
    Paige Tornberg
    My Cell # 623-217-3748

Some of my personal background include...certified swim instructor/authorized provider through the American Red Cross with my WSI (Water Safety Instructor) and U Swim instructor certified through Lifetime Fitness, as well as Lifeguard, CPR, and first-aid certified through the Red Cross.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Integrative Studies with a concentration in Education as well.  This is my 6th year teaching swim lessons. My approach is more firm with positive reinforcement when compared to the parks and recreational facilities.
I have 3 children under the age of 10 and understand the importance of teaching our children the basics of swimming with emphasis on survival skills, especially here in Arizona. All of my children participate in the local swim team.  Swimming has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. From being involved in synchronized swimming for several years as a child to participating in competitive swimming in High School. Swimming can be a challenging skill to learn for some children and ability may vary from one child to the next. With patience, the right technique, and positive reinforcement children can feel confident in the water and have fun learning to swim.  This information is to familiarize you with the program and objectives. During the swim lessons your child will be exposed to a wide variety of aquatic skills.

My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and fun environment for you and your child to begin the process of learning to swim. Safety in and around the water is my number one priority, and learning to swim is a vital survival skill that every child needs to acquire. In addition to giving your child a boost in his/her self esteem, I want them to have fun and exercise their bodies too. They will learn to float on their back/front, grasp the ledge of the pool, climb out of pool without assistance, scoot over to the step area while holding on to the ledge (spiderman/scootlebug), breathing techniques, scooping arms, kicking, bubbles, bobs, safe jumping, diving for objects and other skills. The age of each child and developemental readiness plays a major part in each child's performance of each skill. It is important not to make comparrisons from one child to the next, as it is known that each child has their own individual strengths and weaknesses. Stroke work and diving are also taught depending on ability.  Understanding that it takes a lot of repetition and practice is important for parents who are just beginning to introduce their child to the water. Crying and clinging to an instructor or parent in the first couple of classes is completely normal. Tears and anxious behavior are common in the beginning of swim lessons. I encourage parents to make their own decision on how much they choose to participate in the lesson; however, some children are not able to focus with loved ones around so they may need to sit out of the view of the child (shaded out of sight areas are provided so you can still look in on your child). After a few lessons, if your child's fear has not subsided or they aren't acclimated to the water, adjustments will be made to help calm their fears. Private lessons are another option for more one-on-one instruction.
My goal is to be as interactive as possible with each child. Recognizing that each child may have different learning styles is important. Some children will enjoy demonstrations and understand better from that, while others need to play games or have the instructor be more hands on with him/her. Constant positive reinforcement will be used throughout the lesson to encourage your child. They will need to work at their own individual levels and will progress accordingly. Valuable social skills will be developed as well. Taking turns and working with other children can have major benefits in all aspects of their little lives. Making new friends is fun too!Behavioral issues will be addressed if a particular child is being disruptive and is clearly causing other children to loose their attention on what is being taught.  My priority is to provide a safe and fun program for you and your child. With your help we can encourage your child to relax and enjoy the process of learning to swim. Frequency is the key to water adjustment and learning, so please try to attend all classes and encourage your child's progress. Practicing at home is very important! There will be no makeup classes this year due to my busy schedule. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I encourage questions or comments and will gladly respond to any concerns you may have. I am looking forward to another amazing fun-filled summer with all of your children! Thank you...
